Who is the greatest writer in the world of literature? The answer is William Shakespear. As we all know, Churchchill made England much powerful, but Shakespeare helped people remember England by bringing English words to life.
It was two years ago when I was watching the movie “Hamlet” with my father that I first got to know the great name Shakespeare. What impressed me most in the movie was one of his words—“to be or not be, that is the question”. And through the cool sentence, I remember the name “Shakespeare”. This summer, however, another movie I watched about him “Shakespeare in love”, made me even eager to know more about him. Thanks for the Bookworm Series, published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, my curiosity got sartisfied.
As a world famous writer, Shakespeare wrote many masterpieces, such as “Hamlet”, “Romeo and Juliet”, “King Lear” and so on. But who knows when he was young, he was poor and naughty. His father was a glove-maker, but William did not want to be like his father. He wanted to do what he loved -- to be a great poet.. Though he got married and then had children at an early age, he never fogot about his dream. Though many people including his wife didn’t think much of the career of being a writer at that time, he still wanted to pursue his own career more than anything else in the world. He tried his best to write without giving up and finally his dream came true.
In my opinion, William could be a perfect husband if his wife could really understood him. Because he wanted to bring her happiness, not pains. For example, when their only son died, he didn’t let people know his pains. Instead, he hid his sadnes deep inside him.
However, there was something not good about William, that is he always saw the bad side of the world and laughed at other people in his plays. Can such a person be a happy guy? I am not so sure. He ran after his dream throughout his life; in his later years, he was able to make much money and bought a big, grand house and people called him “Mr Shakespeare” rather than “Young Will the actor” or “John Shakespeare’s boy”. Undoubtedly, he achieved great success. But he had no children to keep the name Shakespeare. Maybe people believe William was happy. Maybe he was not really happy, or maybe William Shakespear himself is a great puzzle. Never mind all these as they are not the most important, his plays and peoms were good enough for people to remember him.
What is the reason for Shakespeare’s success? Perhaps the answer lies in the very words “ to or or not to be”. His purpuit of a wonderful life and fear of leading an obscure life gave him endless strengrth and inspiration for writing as well as living.
