The English edition of Understanding Xi Jinping’s Educational Philosophy has recently been jointly published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press and Higher Education Press. The book was translated by Beijing Foreign Studies University under the auspices of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, to communicate President Xi’s new thoughts and ideas on education to international readers and keep the international community abreast of the latest developments in China’s educational sector.

The Chinese version, consisting of an introduction and nine chapters, was published in July 2020. It provides a comprehensive and in-depth interpretation of President Xi’s educational philosophy, an important component of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. President Xi’s vision on education has expanded the frontiers of Marxist educational thought and serves as a fundamental guideline for accelerating the country’s educational modernization, building an educational powerhouse, and meeting the people’s need for better education.

The English version is an accurate and idiomatic translation of the Chinese text, faithful to the original work and with due consideration for the reading experience of an international audience. It aims to help readers better understand President Xi’s educational philosophy, while providing up-to-date information about the background, significance, tasks, and approaches of China’s education reform in the new era.
