The 76th Frankfurt Book Fair was held from October 16th to 20th, 2024, in Frankfurt, Germany. It is an important international platform for publishing institutions of various countries to present their publishing innovations and to enhance professional exchanges. Wang Fang, Secretary of the CPC Committee of FLTRP Group, Chair of the Board of FLTRP Group, President of FLTRP, led a delegation to attend the fair. The delegation had in-depth exchanges with international partners such as Taylor & Francis, Klett, Cengage Learning, Springer Nature and others, to discuss the future development and cooperation.
President Wang Fang was invited to attend the Opening Ceremony of Frankfurt Book Fair.
On the opening day of the fair on October 15th, President Wang Fang met with Juergen Boos, President of the Frankfurt Book Fair. The two parties had a conversation about the latest trends in the global publishing industry, especially the far-reaching impact of the digital and artificial intelligence era on publishing. President Wang Fang emphasized that FLTRP has been accelerating its digitalization and digital-intelligence integration, striving to build a bridge between traditional publishing and emerging technologies, and leading the transformation of China’s educational publishing industry. Juergen Boos appreciated the innovative spirit and achievements of FLTRP. He hoped that FLTRP could take the Frankfurt Book Fair as a platform to carry out more business activities with exhibitors from different countries and to promote China’s publishing globally. In the evening, President Wang Fang was invited to attend the Opening Ceremony of Frankfurt Book Fair, and had extensive discussions with guests in terms of new modes and new business forms in the international publishing industry.

On October 16th, FLTRP held the launch of Reading China Series of English Graded Readers in the China joint booth. Mr. Mei Deming, professor of Shanghai International Studies University and Editor-in-Chief of Reading China, gave an impressive speech. He said, Reading China aims to dynamically combine language education with cultural education, showing the unique charm of Chinese culture to the world. FLTRP also held the signing ceremony with Taylor & Francis Group for the project of Key Topics Library. Mr Zhao Haiyun, Deputy Director General, Import & Export Administration Bureau, Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Mr. Zhao spoke highly of the close collaboration between the two publishers. He expected that the two sides would take the project as a new starting point for cooperation to further enhance the international influence of Chinese publishing and Chinese voices. On the same day, President Wang Fang discussed the digital publication of German textbooks and dictionaries with Klett Group, and reached cooperation with Tuttle USA Group on copyright license and book export regarding CLT products.

She met with Karine Pansa, President of the International Publishers Association, Johannes Ebert, Secretary General, Chairman of the Board of the Goethe-Institut, Stefan von Holtzbrinck, CEO of the Holtzbrinck Group, Michael Hansen, CEO of Cengage Group, Niels Peter Thomas, Managing Director Books, Springer Nature, Emma Bourne, Global Managing Director Curriculum and Asia/MENA of Macmillan Education and others. They exchanged views on further strengthening and upgrading the cooperation, and on jointly promoting the prosperity of the global publishing industry and mutual cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries.

The FLTRP delegation also met with a number of partners, including Oxford University Press, HarperCollins Publishers, Nosy Crow, Creative Teaching Press, etc. They discussed on ELT cooperation, academic publishing, China-themed content, IP derivatives development, etc., and finally reached a series of new cooperation intentions. Additionally, the delegation also attended the reception held by Cengage Group and Springer Nature. During the Frankfurt Book Fair, FLTRP further strengthened its communication with the international publishing industry and enhanced the depth and breadth of its cooperation with foreign partners. In the future, FLTRP will continue to uphold the concept of openness and inclusiveness, actively participating in the development of the global publishing industry, and contributing to the promotion of Chinese culture to the world.
During this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair, FLTRP set up a stand-alone booth at the China joint stand, displaying more than 70 kinds of high-quality books, including the English edition of Understanding Xi Jinping’s Educational Philosophy, Key Concepts in Chinese Thought and Culture, Reading China Series of English Graded Readers, Li Sheng English Graded readers on Chinese culture, Primer of Famous Paintings for Kids Series and so on. The range of these books covered Chinese themes, humanities and social sciences, traditional culture, language learning, children’s books and other areas.
